I like good outfits every day, but there is something about planning looks for a vacation that really just makes my heart flutter. As much as I love my solid, cap-sleeved work dresses and trouser pants with bright tops, I was ecstatic to put together a week's worth of outfits for a vacation with my mom. We spent seven days exploring Seattle, Washington, driving a few hours north to Vancouver, Canada and catching a ferry for a few hours on the Island of Victoria. It was magical. No humidity, cool air (IN AUGUST, Y'ALL) and the perfect opportunity to try different things I've been thinking about but couldn't justify throwing on for a trip to Whole Foods. The weather in the Pacific Northwest almost had a fall feel that gave me the perfect dose of excitement for what's to come (once this nasty, muggy mess subsides). I hope that my playing with different textures and silhouettes inspires you to try something new. I've attached links where I could find items or similar pieces! Seeing SpotsSweater: Leith x Nordstrom | Skirt: Topshop | Bag: Steve Madden | Tights: H&M | Booties: Steve Madden (similar here) Anyone who knows me knows I LIVE for leopard print. I was immediately smitten when I saw this skirt. I love that it's a blast from the past with the exposed zipper in the front and it's high-waisted fit. If you can't tell, it's denim. I dressed it up a little for dinner, but losing the tights and booties and throwing on a graphic tee would be so cute and fun for something more casual. Obviously the skirt is the focal point of the outfit. The deep v of this wrap sweater (which comes in a TON of cute colors; I also have the cream one) is sexy and cool without stealing any of the skirt's shine. Cheers for tights and booties season being on the way. I think a mini skirt with sheer tights and boots will always be hot. Always. Just Rompin' AroundSunnies: Target | Backpack: Aldo (similar here) | Romper: Sanctuary x Dillard's (similar here) | Kicks: Adidas I wore this cool romper for our last day in Seattle. We pretty much spent the day walking around and stopping by Pike Place Market one last time before we left. I scored this piece at the Dillard's Discount Center in Montgomery, so I wasn't able to find it (except on eBay). However, I linked another really cute green romper that I found. I love that this romper gives off such an effortlessly cool vibe, but it's still intentional. I am a "more is more" kind of person, so I went with long sassy earrings, my blingy mini backpack and my gold-striped Adidas. My mom and I both wore flat shoes the entire trip. My feet were thankful. Fun Pants FridayWhen I bought these pants, I immediately saw this outfit in my head. I was stoked to get to make it a reality. I think wide-legged or slouchy pants can still be super hot with a crop top. It shows just enough skin, without being too much. It's the grown up way to show your belly, and it's so comfy. Luckily, high-waisted flared pants are everywhere right now. I would either pair them with something cropped enough to leave a few inches of tummy OR tucking in a super fitted top (or a body suit) to keep it from looking frumpy. Cozy for a Road TripSweater: Leith x Nordstrom (same as above) | Jeans: American Eagle (try these)| Backpack: Aldo (same as above) | Earrings: Forever 21 I recycled my comfy sweater and paired it with my favorite boyfriend jeans for the car ride to Canada. I have always been a fan of American Eagle jeans. I've had these for years, and they are my go-to for casual days when I just want to look cool without having to put forth much effort. As we move into fall, there will be a pocket of time when it's kinda cool but not really...but it's also not hot. That is the PERFECT time for distressed denim and your comfy sweaters. Whimsy & a Midi SkirtSunnies: Target (same as above) | Top: American Eagle (I like this one, this one and this one) | Skirt: Forever 21 (here's another option, ooo and this one) When I first put this outfit together, I was worried the colors would kind of clash. I was pleasantly surprised how it worked out as this grown-up, classy nautical situation. I felt very ladylike in it but also really cool. I get so many compliments every time I wear this midi skirt that I got from Forever 21 a few years ago. I think every woman should have one for when she just wants to feel super girly. Plus, there are so many different ways to wear them. This little off-the-shoulder top was a bargain steal from a huge AE sale. I linked some cool off-the-shoulder, striped tops, but I would also consider a body suit with a cool neckline or shoulder situation. Casual TouristBag: Target | Sweater: Delia's (suuuuper old) | Jeans: Levi's x Macy's | Flats: Steve Madden (similar)| Sunnies: Target (same as above) The ferry ride from Vancouver to Victoria was the most beautiful thing I have ever experienced. I am writing a separate post for the trip itself, but note that it's incredible. I didn't really know what to expect, so I kept it simple. I've had this fuzzy, slouchy sweater since high school. I always love pulling it out in the fall. Also, a good pair of black skinnies is a MUST. Like, literally, they're never a bad idea.
I hope these outfits inspire you to try something you maybe wouldn't usually try. Also, you don't need a vacation to wear your favorite things. That's what weekends are for, right?! Happy twirling & shopping! With Love & Glitter, Morgan
